Salt marsh

Salt marshland in Wood Buffalo Park, the largest national park of Canada. It was established in 1922 to protect the last remaining buffalo herds and as a summer nesting-place for migratory whooping cranes (Grus americana), a further species threatened with extinction.
In terms of its flora, the park boasts one of the most species-rich ecosystems on the North American continent. Vast numbers of marsh and prairie plant varieties prosper in a landscape of coniferous and mixed forests and salt plains.
