The Schönefeld airport expansion under construction near Berlin, Germany, photographed in 2011 by the RapidEye satellite. The site lies to the southeast of the city, in the Province of Brandenburg. Scheduled for completion in 2012, it has already cost the nation 5 billion euros. Numerous woes and deficiencies coupled with astronomical expense have made the Berlin airport expansion project into a public scandal that has drawn attention even outside Germany.
